Welcome back Reception!
The early years team hope you had a fantastic Christmas holiday and wish you all a very happy and prosperous new year. May we take this opportunity to thank all parents and carers for their Christmas greetings and incredibly generous gifts. We appreciate your kindness.
Please find below a few highlights of the spring term ....
During the first part of the spring term, the children will be looking at the changing seasons and learning all about winter. Your child will be investigating ice and its changing state. The children will be learning all about the Polar region and will write their very own information book about Arctic animals.
Children will be learning all about Chinese New Year and will develop their understanding of different cultures and celebrations.
The children will be listening to some of their favourite traditional tales. They will be writing their own version of the Gingerbread Man and will be acting in role as many of their favourite story characters.
The children will continue to revise letters and sounds and will be applying their phonic knowledge to their writing. They will be focusing on blending and segmenting words and also reading simple sentences. Your child will continue to bring their reading books home this term. Please support your child and read a few pages with them every day. Please ensure your child brings their reading book and diary into school every day.
The children will continue to review numbers from 1 to 20 and solve simple number problems using addition and subtraction. The children will learn to count on in 2’s. They will be reviewing 2D and 3D shapes and patterns and will complete data handling activities. The children will talk about their understanding of maths and develop their mathematical language.
