Year 5/6

Autumn Term Year 5/6

We hope you have had a wonderful summer holiday and we welcome you back to school. This term you will be learning about WWII- we will investigate life in Britain during this time as well as key events from the front line. Our class novel this term is 'Friend or Foe' by Michael Morpurgo, where we will learn all about evacuation.

As you know for our Year 6's this is the beginning of their SATs year. We will be in touch over the next few weeks with more information about the SATs but if you have any questions in the meantime please do not hesitate to contact a member of the team!

Some important information that you and your family will want to know:

P.E  Timetable

Mrs Watson's class- Swimming on Wednesdays

Miss Morgan's class- P.E on Wednesdays

Mr Taggart's class- P.E on Wednesdays.

Sports' Club- Fridays

Please make sure you have suitable PE kit (black shorts, white t-shirt and indoor shoes or suitable swimming kit).

Homework - Will be handed out on a Friday and should be returned completed by the following Wednesday. Homework will often be part of activities on a Friday so it is essential that it is completed and in school on time. All homework will be based on learning from the week but if you would like a little extra help please do not be afraid to ask before it is due in on a Wednesday.

Spellings - We have changed our approach to the teaching of spelling this year. All classes will be following the Read, Write, Inc spelling programme. Instead of learning ten given spellings each week, you will be expected to learn any spellings that you have found difficult in our spelling sessions within school. These can be found in the spelling log book.
