Year 5/6

Spring Term Year 5/6

We hope you have had a wonderful Christmas holiday and we welcome you back to school. This term you will be learning all about famous explorers. We will be using the novel 'The Girl of Ink and Stars' during our Literacy lessons and will be writing using a range of different genres linked to the story.

Alongside our topic of explorers, we will also be working alongside Beamish Museum this half term, learning about the changes for women's rights over the past one hundred years.

SAT booster classes begin this term for our Year 6's in the run up to their SAT tests. It has been a delight to see so many dedicated children already attending these sessions!

Some important information that you and your family will want to know:

P.E  Timetable

Mr Taggart's class- Swimming on Wednesdays

Miss Morgan's class- P.E on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Mrs Watson's class - P.E on Wednesdays.

Sports' Club- Fridays

Please make sure you have suitable PE kit (black shorts, white t-shirt and indoor shoes or suitable swimming kit).

Homework - Will be handed out on a Friday and should be returned completed by the following Wednesday. Homework will often be part of activities on a Friday so it is essential that it is completed and in school on time. All homework will be based on learning from the week but if you would like a little extra help please do not be afraid to ask before it is due in on a Wednesday.

Spellings - We have changed our approach to the teaching of spelling this year. All classes will be following the Read, Write, Inc spelling programme. Instead of learning ten given spellings each week, you will be expected to learn any spellings that you have found difficult in our spelling sessions within school. These can be found in the spelling log book.
