Value in Everyone

Friday 8th January

Y5: In the autumn term we spent a lot of time using our knowledge of multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 or 1000 to convert between units of measurement. We used the idea 'big to small, multiply it all' to know whether to multiply or divide (a larger unit converted to a smaller one = multiply). For example to convert from 4.5metres to centimetres you need to know that 1m = 100cm, then 'big to small' (metres are larger than centimetres) so 4.5 x 100 = 450cm.

Today you will be revising the process of x by 10, 100 and 1000. Remember the number of zeros tells you how many places to move each digit to the left. Multiplying by ten and by ten again is the same as multiplying by 100 so use tricks like this to help you!

Watch the video at https://vimeo.com/474985075 and begin with the 'Get Ready questions'. The video then guides you through, and revises, what you should already know. Complete the worksheet attached. Remember when you are comparing numbers (using < or >) the arrow always points towards the smaller value.

Y4: Today you will be revising the process of multiplying by 10 and 100. Remember the number of zeros tells you how many places to move each digit to the left. Multiplying by ten and by ten again is the same as multiplying by 100 so use tricks like this to help you! You only need to watch one video but you are going to do selected questions from two different worksheets.

Watch the video at https://vimeo.com/474994600 and begin with the 'Get Ready questions'. The video then guides you through, and revises, a lot of what you already know. From the multiplying by 10 worksheet, complete questions 7-11. From the multiplying by 100 worksheet, complete questions 5-9.  Remember when you are comparing numbers (using < or >) the arrow always points towards the smaller value.
