Today's starter is to go on TTR and compete in the battle against year 5, which starts today and ends on Friday at 3pm. See if you can do 10 minutes at least 3 times this week.
You can only score in this battle between 9 am and 3 pm every day.
Today, we are going to look at how to use 2 methods for multiplying 2-digits by 1-digit, using two methods. both which we call short multiplication. Please try to use both methods as this will help your learning.
The question which asks you to use Brett's method, can be completed by using the partitioning method we used last week, rather than you having to draw a grid.
e.g. 5 X 32 can be calculated by
5 X 30 + 5 X 2 =
150 + 10 =
If you need help with your times tables, please find a times table grid below. There is also a blank grid for you to complete, should you wish to print it out. There is no expectation for this to be printed out or completed.
When you carry any digits over into the next column, which in this case will be the tens column. check you are carrying the correct digit. Remember, it may also be larger than 1. (We've normally only carried a 1 with our addition)
