On Friday 6th June Jarrow Cross welcomed a very special visitor- an olympic athlete named Peter Bakare!
Peter was part of the Great Britain volleyball team, at the London Olympics in 2012, and was visiting our school as part of Sports for Schools. Every pupil took part in a circuit of exercises that included star-jumps, press ups and spotty dogs. Each activity had to be carried out for 1 minute and everyone had a fantastic time as Peter, and his colleague Nathan, encouraged us to do our best and have fun while exercising and keeping fit.
After the whole school had completed their circuit successfully, we all returned to the hall for an assembly led by Peter. He told us about the hard work and dedication that was required to become an international athlete, while at the same time maintaining his educational studies. Several pupils also had the opportunity to practise volleyball skills that Peter and Nathan demonstrated.
Peter was an inspirational athlete and our pupils clearly enjoyed meeting him and learning about his positive attitude towards exercise and learning.
