Task 1- editing your letter
All good writers edit. We are going to edit our letters for our job application to become the next Zeus. You saw how fierce and powerful he was on the Zoom call. You need to show that you have what it takes to fill his place on Mount Olympus, when he retires. I have turned some words bold that you may like to magpie for your letters. Remember that we expect
We know that you can do them on school.
Dear sir or madam
I wish to apply for the job of all powerful and mighty Zeus, king of the impressive and magnificent Ancient Greek gods, as advertised in your recent advert. I believe I am more than capable of taking over from the zealous and heroic Zeus.
I am extremely skilful at making new laws and would only make them to ensure the smooth running of Mount Olympus and for the mere mortals who live on the earth. For example - first, I would make a very important new law that everybody has to take notice of the brand-new distinguished and impressive Zeus. This will ensure that a smooth transition of power can take place without any interference from the old Zeus.
As a previous recipient of Zeus’ punishments, I am more than aware of how formidable and worthy his punishments were; Punishments from me will be at least of equal power and vengeance to his. My punishments of choice would be to turn mortals to stone or give them eternal hunger - and for the eternal beings, to chain them to an eternally flaming wheel or have them continuously and perpetually bombarded with massive lightning bolts.
Along with ferocious and deadly lightning bolts, I have the immense power to turn mortals to stone in the blink of an eye, and convert eternal beings into mortals and vice versa. I believe that these punishments will offer a deterrent to any other weaker god trying to take over and I will therefore run Mount Olympus and earth very easily and without any problems.
Finally, I would ensure that evil stays away from all of the gods and mortal beings by using my powers at occasional and random times on both earth and on top of Mount Olympus. This way, it will remind mortals and gods alike that I am indeed the mighty and powerful Zeus and to also remind them of my immense and seriously impressive powers.
All of the above attributes will enable to me to be a tremendous, incredible and fabulous Zeus with amazing and authoritative powers. I look forward to hearing from you regarding my appointment.
Zeus the Second
Task 2 - record yourself reading the letter
After you have edited your letter, you are going to read it out loud in your best mighty and impressive Zeus voice and record yourself reading out the letter. You don't have to be on camera to read this out, but I'd love to see you if you want. Make sure you upload these to the Distance Learning email. I am so looking forward to seeing these. Please let me know if you are okay sharing these videos with the children at school. I am sure they would love to see some of you.
Task 3 - plan a mosaic and then make your mosaic plate
If you have received a paper plate in your home learning packs, then you can use this. If you haven't received your new pack yet, just draw around a plate in your books and you can use that. You are going to decorate your plates in the style of Ancient Greek mosaics. Check out the PowerPoint/PDF BEFORE you begin this task.
