Today we are going to continue finding fractions of amounts.
Remember:
DDMN – divide by the denominator multiply by the numerator
Eg. 3/8 of 648 =
Divide but the denominator 648 ÷ 8 = 81 (I used the bus stop method)
Multiply by the numerator 81 x 3 = 243 (I used times table
knowledge but you could use a column)
3/8 of 648 = 243.
Miss Wilcox and Miss Doran’s maths group:
I’d like you to start by completing the fraction maze on slide 1 of the powerpoint – answer each question and follow the correct answer to make a path through each maze.
You can record it in your exercise books as a string of questions and answers
Eg. ½ of 18 = 9, 2/3 of 12 = 8
Or you can print the sheet and draw your path.
Then complete the reasoning and problem solving questions on slide 2 of the power point.
Mrs Watson and Miss Pearce’s maths groups
Today’s question are all reasoning and problem solving questions around finding fractions of amounts.
Open the powerpoint and work through the questions. If you click on the sound icon, there is an explanation about how to approach each question.
