Spelling Task:

We are going to focus on the words from Read Write Inc special focus 4.

These words are all orange words which means that these are common words which are tricky to spell and have no obvious rule to follow.

This week’s words all appear on the year 5 and 6 statutory spelling list, they are:

         profession    sufficient     correspond     apparently     opportunity

Today I would like you to have a look at the spelling sheets attached practise the words profession and sufficient using the activities on the worksheet. (No need to print, you can do this in your exercise book). If you are unsure of the definitions, use your dictionary skills to help you.

Writing

Today, we are going to recap Chapter 1 of the story and interpret the author’s use of vocabulary.

Re-read Chapter 1 – The Peggy Sue as this will help you with your task for today. While you are reading, identify any words that you do not understand. It might be useful to make a note of these.

Once you have read Chapter 1, your task is to think about the language that the author has used and find out definitions for certain words. Try and use your vocabulary strategies to try and clarify the word.

On the word document below, there are 16 words in a table. Your task is to use either a paper dictionary (if you have one) or use an online one to find the definition of each word, record it and then write it in a sentence of your own to make sure that you understand the meaning of it.

This can be typed up on the word document or you can write it in your exercise book.
