A quotient is the number we get after dividing by a divisor. e.g. 12 ÷ 4 = 3
So 3 is the quotient of 12 and 4.
Main
Today, we are going to look at how to divide a 3-digit number by 1-digit.
We do exactly the same method as yesterday (short division also known as bus stop method), but we have another digit to divide into.
We are also looking at having remainders in our answer. These happen when a number is not able to be divided wholly.
e.g. if we had 9 sweets and you share them with your friend, you cannot share them equally. There will be one left over.
9 ÷ 2 we know that 9 is an odd number. So our answer will be 4 r 2 - the r is short for remainder.
