Value in Everyone

Year 1

In September Year 1 have enjoyed getting used to their new classroom and working really hard. We have been exploring the United Kingdom with Paddington Bear and can already name some famous landmarks in London! We went on our first visit  to the library, where we brought a book back to school to enjoy in our class reading areas. We have also had a judo taster session which we all loved. We have been learning the story of The Gingerbread Man, using actions to help us re-tell the story.

In October Year 1 took part in the school’s Harvest Festival, we told everyone the story of ‘The Enormous Turnip.’ We went to the Open Zone and performed a live show where we took Paddington Bear on a  tour of London. We can name lots of famous London landmarks and tell you facts about them!

In November Year 1 enjoyed a trip to the cinema to see 'A Dog's Journey'. The children were complimented on their exemplary behaviour throughout our visit.

We came to school in our pyjamas for Children in Need and raised lots of money for this good cause.

In our English lessons we researched The Great Fire of London and took on the role of Samuel Pepys to answer questions of how he would have felt during the fire.

In science we carried out some investigations and made predictions about the results.

In December some Year 1 children took part in a multiskills festival, it was great fun!

We have been experimenting with colours, mixing primary colours to make new colours, look at our colour wheels!

We also got ready for Christmas, starting with our Christmas coffee morning where our adults came to school and we got our photo taken with Santa. We went to see Cinderella at the pantomime, it was fantastic! Merry Christmas everyone!

In January, we all settled back into school from the Winter break. We started the term with an exciting visitor, ‘That History Bloke.’ He talked to us about life in Victorian times and we all had the opportunity to play with toys from the past. We are looking forward to looking at our own toys and writing leaflets about them.

Four of us were selected to go to Inflate-a-Nation for incentive day. It was great fun! We look forward to seeing who will be picked for the next incentive day for the Spring term.
