Home Visits and School Visits

To get to know you and your child better, and to support the transition from nursery to starting school, we invite you to take part in a home visit. These begin on 3rd June 2026.

You and your child will also have the opportunity to visit Jarrow Cross. The school visits will take place on the 9th and 10th July. 

It is important that you are available for all visits. Please refer to your individual letter for confirmation of your home visit and school visit date. Contact the school office as soon as possible if the date you have been given is not convenient. Telephone 0191 489 8354.

Nursery Visits

Reception staff from Jarrow Cross will visit your child in their nursery setting. This will help us to observe and get to know your child in an educational setting where they are secure and confident. It also allows us the opportunity to speak to nursery staff and for them to pass on any important information we may need to know about your child.

September

In the first week of your child starting school, we operate a slightly staggered start to support the children's transition during this very important time. Children will stay for their free school lunch from the first day. They will be attending at the following times:

Thursday 3rd September 2026 9.30am until 1.00pm

Friday 4th September 2026 8.45am until 1.00pm

The following week, the children will join the timetable with the rest of the school:

Monday 7th September 2026 onwards 8.45am until 3.30pm

Playgroup

We warmly welcome you to attend our weekly playgroup at Jarrow Cross, which runs every Monday from 2.00 until 3.30pm. The playgroup is run by Mrs Armstrong and will give your child the opportunity to meet some of the children who will be joining Reception class in September.
