Value in Everyone

Year 2

September

We've had a great start to the new school year.  The children have begun learning about Africa and have developed their map skills, knowledge of places as well as studying the Masai tribe.  Have a look at the fantastic artwork they've produced.

In English, the children have been using the book Handa's Surprise to develop their sentence structure and understanding of verbs, nouns and adjectives.

In maths, the children have been counting in 2's, 5's and 10's and revising their understanding of place value.  They can now partition a number into tens and ones and represent numbers in lots of different ways.

October

This month we have read a range of books to enhance our understanding of life in Africa.  We have used the stories to inspire us to write postcards and diary entries, describe settings, create artwork and understand the difference between how we live our lives compared to others.

The Dog's Trust visited our class and we learnt all about how to care for our pets and be a responsible dog owner.  We also learnt how to keep ourselves safe around our own and unfamiliar dogs.  We did this by thinking about their feelings and reflecting on how our actions can effect the way dogs behave.
