Local Authority SEND Forum

We are looking for parents and carers to be involved in a new improvement forum that will focus on SEN Support in schools.

Parents and carers have told us that there are inconsistencies in the support that is offered to children and young people with SEND. For example, we’ve heard that there isn’t enough preparation for transitions, that some services are not as inclusive as others, and that communication about all things SEND needs to be improved. This is your opportunity to help change this!

The aim of the SEN Improvement Forum is to give parents and carers the chance to work alongside Jennifer Breckon (School Improvement Officer SEND) and Rachael Hood (Area SENCO) to help improve the experience parents have of SEN support from schools. We want to hear your experiences, including what works well and what doesn’t, so that Jennifer and Rachael are able to work with schools to improve their SEND provision.

The meetings will be half termly and the first will be on March 12th 10:00 – 11:30. If you would like to be part of this or want to know more, please get in touch – I’d love to hear from you

South Tyneside Council & South Tyneside CCG are pleased to announce a new range of training for parents and carers of children and young people with SEND.

Based on what parents have told us, we have pulled together a training programme covering a range of topics including SEND Law, Makaton, Challenging Behaviour and much more. The training programme will run for the next 12 months with lots of opportunities for parents to choose the training that’s of most interest to them. All courses are free to join.

We are now taking bookings for the first event: a series of training on SEND Law. These sessions will be delivered by Claire Jackson of SENETA (Special Educational Needs Expert Training & Advocacy). Click the link below to find out more about the sessions and book your space.

Information on all future courses will appear over the coming weeks
