Eco Committee:
Jarrow Cross is a Green Flag School. We are checked and monitored by Eco Schools for our work towards helping to protect the environment.
We have an active Eco Committee that works relentlessly, checking and monitoring classrooms daily to ensure that everyone is recycling and following our schools Eco Code.
Our Eco Committee consists of children from across the school who give up their own time to analyse and evaluate how the school is working towards a greener future.
The Eco Committee carry out an annual environmental review across the whole school which then informs the Eco Action Plan.
We work closely with outside organisations such as Groundworks to offer children exciting opportunities to take part in environmental workshops and activities such as litter picking in the local area.
Our Eco Committee aims to encourage:

Forest School:
The aim of Forest Schools is to encourage and inspire individuals, of any age, to enjoy the opportunities offered by natural play, through positive outdoor experiences. Through these experiences, our children have the opportunity to develop intrinsic motivation, balanced emotional and social skills. These, through self awareness, can be developed to help reach personal potential. The Forest Schools philosophy has demonstrated success with children of all ages, where, through play and self-directed learning, they have the opportunity to learn about the natural environment, how to handle risks and most importantly, how to use their own initiative to solve problems and co-operate with others.
Our children access the outdoor environment in all kinds of weather. While outside, they use full sized tools, play, learn boundaries of behaviour, grow in confidence and self-esteem, as well as becoming more self-motivated.
