Year 3/4

January

A very happy new year to you all.  To start our new term and new year we will be learning all about the Romans, their reasons for invasion and will look at all of the things that we have and use today which were introduced to us during their presence in Great Britain.  We have two special visitors coming into school to work with us this month and teach us all about soldier formations and Roman artefacts.  What an exciting term!

December

This month we have been learning how to use cross stitch, running stitch and applique.  We designed and made our own Egyptian collars.

We also attended mummification training school where we learned the whole process of mummification - this was great fun!

November

This term we are learning all about the amazing Egyptians.  We have learned how to write in hieroglyphics and how this ancient society worked and ruled.  We also observed ancient artefacts and other sources of evidence to find out about life in the times of the Ancient Egyptians.

In Science we have been learning all about light and how we see objects.  We carried out an investigation to see if all objects would form a shadow.

October

This month at school we have been learning all about the fascinating period of history - The Stone Age.  We have learned how humans have evolved over time from Homo Habilis to Homo Sapiens.  The children really enjoyed ordering different skulls from earliest to most recent.

In Science we have carried out an investigation to see which rock would be the most suitable to make a Stone Age axe, testing for permeability, splitting and wearing.

In our art lessons we have recreated prehistoric cave paintings using a range of media and natural resources to make our own colours.

We have also had special visitors in class to teach us all about archaeology and the discovery of bog bodies. We learned how objects, clothes and the remains of food in the stomach can tell us so much about how and where the person lived - amazing!

September

What a fabulous start to the new year.  All of the children have settled in so well and are ready to start their new learning journey.

This term we will be learning all about the Stone Age and will experience what it was like to live in this period of history with our outdoor Stone Age day.  We will also be learning all about life in the times of the Ancient Egyptians, a really exciting topic!  The children will learn how to mummify in our Mummification Training School.

In Science we are learning all about rocks and soils.  In our fun STEM activity, we will learn all about the rock cycle and make our own using starburst.
