Personal, Social, Health, Citizen Education (PSHCE) and Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) is embedded in school life and throughout the teaching and learning at Jarrow Cross C of E Primary School.
It is our intent that our children, become equipped with the life skills required for a successful future. Pupils will be supported to develop confidence and awareness of their own abilities, set goals and take responsibility for their own actions, understand how to live healthy lifestyles, including what constitutes as a healthy relationship, who to trust and who to go to when in need. Pupils will understand the core British Values, acknowledge and respect differences and diversity within our community and the wider world.
Renaming of PSHE
After discussion with our children it became obvious that although the children were fully aware of its subject matter, the title of PSHE/ RSE had very little meaning to our children. Therefore we decided to give the children the opportunity to rename the subject. We held a whole school competition during which the children were encouraged to develop a new title and logo for the subject. We then had a shortlist and the children voted for their favourite. A a result PSHE has became You, Me and the World.
The children felt extremely proud and empowered to have made a significant change to the curriculum.

Pupil Voice: Anti-bullying policy
Again after discussions with the children it became apparent that our anti-bullying policy was not child friendly and they struggled to understand certain aspects. As part of anti-bullying week, they wrote a more accessible policy to complement/go alongside our current school policy thus reflecting the value we place upon pupil voice. The policy will be revisited on an annual basis to ensure it reflects current trends in our local and national areas.
