  • Letter to Parents from Mrs McBeth 30.4.21

    Fri 30 Apr 2021

                                            Friday 30th April 2021

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Just a little reminder that next Monday is a Bank Holiday and so the children will not return to school until Tuesday 4th May.

As I am sure you are aware that unfortunately this week for the first time since November, we have had to close bubbles down in school. As you can imagine this is very upsetting for all those involved, children, parents and staff alike. As shops, leisure facilities etc begin to open up this was maybe in some ways not a surprise, but we would obviously urge you to continue to be cautious when out and about as always keep your child at home if they begin to develop any of the recognised symptoms of Covid 19.  Please be assured that in school we continue to rigorously follow our Covid 19 Risk Assessment.

Next Friday, May 7th is World Math’s Day. To celebrate, linked to our hugely successful times tables rockstar programme, we are asking the children to come to school dressed as a rockstar! Children who do not want to dress up can simply wear a t-shirt, joggers, trousers etc in other words non uniform. Throughout the day we will be taking part in lots fun games and competitions with the aim of finding out who are our very own Jarrow Cross Rockstars!

Finally, I know you will join with me in wishing Hebburn Town FC the very best of luck in their upcoming FA Vase Cup Final. Their much long awaited trip to Wembley and match against Consett AFC finally takes place on Monday 3rd May. For those of you who are interested and would like to watch the match, it is being streamed live for free on BT Sport (Sky channel 413 and Virgin Channel 527) at 1pm.

    Have a good weekend,

    Kind regards,

    Mrs McBeth

  • Letter to Parents from Mrs McBeth 23.4.21

    Fri 23 Apr 2021

    Friday 23rd April 2021

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you all had a lovely Easter Holiday and were able to enjoy the sunshine and get out and about a little more. The children have certainly come back looking well rested and refreshed.

This term is obviously usually a very busy one for both in school and out of school events. Unfortunately, due to the current circumstances at the moment we are still unable to plan for such events, however we do hope that as the term continues this is something that will change.

Here are just a few pieces of information for you all. As you know all children entitled to free school meals have received support from the Government and the Council throughout the pandemic in the form of Free School Meal Vouchers. On this occasion in recognition that all of our families have suffered due to the Covid 19 pandemic South Tyneside Council has asked schools to provide a £10 Aldi supermarket voucher to the family of each pupil who is NOT entitled to means-tested free school meals. The vouchers have been funded from the Covid Winter Grant Scheme. Therefore, very importantly If you do NOT qualify for Free School Meals please pop to the office on Monday to pick up your £10 Aldi voucher.

If you have been in our main office Reception area you will have noticed our new Book Advisor Scheme.

Both parents and children can come along to the office/reception area and grab a book to take home and read! Simply return it to our 'drop off and donation box' when you are finished so that it can be quarantined.

There are books available for both adults and children. You can also leave a ‘book advisor’ review. Social distancing protocols must obviously be followed.

Our Free Food Friday will be continuing this term, please remember it is open to everyone simply pop along to the large hall and fill up a bag.

Can I also remind parents collecting children to park responsibly and safely. Access for residents should not be blocked and parking on yellow zig-zag lines can reduce visibility for other drivers or pedestrians attempting to cross the road. The main priority is always the safety of our school community.

As I know you are aware this term I am spending part of the week at Simonside Primary, thank you for your kind words and support with this and please remember that Mr Taggart or any of the staff are always available if you need to speak to someone.

    Have a good weekend,

    Mrs McBeth
