  • Letter to Parents from Mrs Mcbeth 26.6.20

    Fri 26 Jun 2020

    Friday 26th June

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you are well and have been able to enjoy the lovely weather this week. Here is just yet another update regarding new information.

We welcomed some of our Year 6 children back to school this week. I am pleased to say they have all come back fit and well and loved their new Leavers Hoodies, so much so some of them wouldn’t take them off despite the hot weather!! A big thank you to the Friends of Jarrow Cross for their very kind donation towards their cost.

We are now starting to receive information regarding the FSM vouchers scheme for the summer holidays. As we have a seven week holiday this year, parents will receive vouchers for a total of £105 per child. They will be distributed in the usual way by email from Edenred, however more information will follow.

Regarding September, I am sure you will have heard the announcement this week that schools will be open for all pupils in September. We are obviously beyond delighted about this. We are still awaiting further information from the DFE, but this is certainly very positive news. Can I just reinforce as I stated in my letter last week that on returning to school there will be a transition period to give all children time to readjust to school life before moving onto new classes and year groups.

For the next two weeks Home Learning will be taking part in our ‘Virtual Fitness Fortnight.’ A plan will be available from Monday and will list a different fitness challenge for each day. There will also be a short video clip of Mr Taggart or Mrs Watson posted each day modelling each challenge (These shouldn’t be missed!). Children at home and at school will be encouraged to take part and medals and certificates will be awarded to children both attending school and those at home. You can send your results in to school by email to the distance learning account and we would love to see videos and photographs of everyone having a go! For the longer challenges you could record your child (and yourselves!) using the time lapse setting on your phone. Check out the new Virtual Fitness Fortnight area in the Parents Section of the website on Monday for more details.

I cannot believe that we now have only three weeks to go until the end of term. In March when school closed so suddenly I would not have believed that I would still be writing letters such as this to you each week. I cannot thank you enough for your support and patience over the last few months. I will continue to make sure you have all the information which continues to be made available from the DFE before the end of term.

    Take care,

    Mrs S. McBeth

                                                                                                        Friday 26th June 2020

To the Children of Jarrow Cross,

Wow well what a hot week it has been I hope you have managed to enjoy the beautiful sunshine!

Well it has certainly been busier in school this week. Some of our Year 6 children came back on Monday. It was lovely to see them and they have certainly grown. They loved their hoodies and wouldn’t take them off even when it was boiling!

I am sure you will have heard that from September school can open for everyone!! We are so happy about this. We don’t know all of the details yet, but hope to see you all in September.

The next two weeks’ home learning is our “Virtual Fitness Fortnight”. Because we are missing our sports day this year, we thought it would be nice to set up a virtual one for you all to take part in.  There will be information on the website on Monday in the new Virtual Fitness Fortnight area in the parent’s section. This will tell you all about a different fitness challenge for you to take part in each day. There will also be a video clip in which Mr Taggart and Mrs Watson will show you what to do, as you can imagine they are now super fit! You can send your results in to school by email and we would love to see videos and photographs of everyone having a go! Everyone at school is taking part too and will be awarding medals and certificates to those of you at school and at home.

Have a lovely weekend. I hope the sun keeps shining. Remember BE KIND and look after each other.

    Take care,

    Mrs McBeth

  • Letter to Parents from Mrs Mcbeth 19.6.20

    Fri 19 Jun 2020

    Friday 19th June

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you are well. Here is just yet another update of some important information.

We welcomed some of our Year 1 children back to school this week. I am pleased to say it has been a lovely week. They have all settled very well and are just a bit tired from the early morning starts!

Our Year 6 children are due to return on Monday, we are really looking forward to having them back for their final few weeks at Jarrow Cross. The staff are planning transition activities to help support them with their upcoming move to the secondary school.

Thank you to those of you who have got in touch regarding Key Worker places. I have to inform you that we no longer have any spaces available for Key Worker children. As you can imagine the number of children which we can have in school is still dependent upon Government Guidelines.

I am sure you will have heard the good news this week that the Government are now going to provide vouchers for those families in receipt of Free School Meals over the summer holidays. We have as of yet, not received any information regarding how this will work over the summer period, but as soon as we know we will let you know.

Regarding September unfortunately yet again I am unable to give you any clear information about what plans are for schools reopening in September. What I can share with you is that on returning to school there will be a transition period during which all children will be given time to readjust to school life before moving onto new classes and year groups.

Next week is the last week we will be setting literacy and numeracy work for the children. The following two weeks we will be encouraging the children to take part in some sport related activities, a little bit like we would on sports day. Then on the final week of term we will make available plans which includes outside activities which can be then continued in the summer holidays.

Thank you again for your ongoing patience in such testing times, and as always please remember whether your child is attending school or not, we are still here to help in any way we can.

    Take care,

    Mrs S. McBeth

                                                                                                        Friday 12th June 2020

To the Children of Jarrow Cross,

I hope you are all well and keeping busy. Did any of you watch the football this week? I bet some of you are glad it’s back, but mind you I bet not everyone in your house is happy about it!

It has been a bit busier in school this week as we have had some of our Year 1 children back as well as Reception children. They have all had a busy week and it has been lovely to see and hear them laughing in the classrooms and corridors.

We are really looking forward to seeing some of you Year 6 children back in school next week. Your new hoodies have arrived and will be all ready and waiting for you on Monday morning. They look fab and so comfy.

Next week is the last week for literacy and numeracy work. For the following two weeks we are planning activities just like those we would do for sports day, then on the final week we will send you some fun outside activities that you can carry on with during the summer holidays. Keep checking the Distance Learning Account for more information about our sport activities and watch out for some video messages from Mr. Taggart and Mrs Watson.

Have a lovely weekend. Remember BE KIND and look after each other.

    Take care,

    Mrs McBeth

  • Letter to Parents from Mrs Mcbeth 12.6.20

    Fri 12 Jun 2020

    Friday 12th June

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you are well. Here is just yet another update with a number of matters.

We welcomed some of our Reception children back to school this week. I am pleased to say it has been a lovely week. The children soon got back into their routine and settled back in very well. There have been no issues with our staggered drop offs and pick-ups and the children have quickly become accustomed to being in their bubble.

Our Year 1 children are due to return on Monday, we are really looking forward to having them back and Miss Richardson, Mrs Watson and Mrs Webster have lots of lovely activities planned for them. At the moment it is still the plan for Year 6 to return on 22nd June. You will receive a text next week confirming this. If you have not already could you, please confirm with the office as to whether your child is returning or not.

I am sure you will have heard the Government’s Announcement this week regarding schools not opening for other year groups before September. I know this will have not come as surprise to yourselves as I have stated in previous letters that unless government guidance changed we would simply not be able to accommodate other year groups.  This does not however, change the fact that this is a very sad decision as it would have been our greatest wish to see all of our children before September.

Regarding September unfortunately yet again I am unable to give you any clear information about what plans are for schools reopening in September. What I can stress however is that staff are already planning ahead for a curriculum which will support all children to make both the practical, academic and emotional transition back into school.

If you remember last week I did ask for you to inform us by today if you are a Key worker and needed your child to attend school. If you have not already done so could you please contact us by the end of today, as moving forward I cannot guarantee that a place will be available.

Thank you again for your ongoing patience in such testing times, and as always please remember whether your child is attending school or not, we are still here to help in any way we can.

    Take care,

    Mrs S. McBeth

                                                                                                        Friday 12th June 2020

To the Children of Jarrow Cross,

I hope you are all well and keeping busy. I am super busy at the moment writing on all of your reports. I hope you didn’t think you were getting away with not having one this year!

Some of the Reception children came back this week and have been having a lovely time. We are looking forward to seeing some of our Year 1 children on Monday, the teachers have planned lots of lovely activities for them too.

I know some of you will have heard on the news this week that not all year groups are going to be able to return to school before September. We are really sad that we are not going to see a lot of you soon and we are going to have a good think about how we can carry on keeping in touch with you all.

Some of you have been working so hard at home, so we thought it was only right that your hard work should be recognised. We have a new Home Learning Certificate which teachers are busy sending out in the post so keep busy!

I hope this awful rain stops soon and you are able to get outside a little bit more.

Have a lovely weekend. Remember BE KIND and look after each other.

    Take care,

    Mrs McBeth

                                                                                                        Friday 5th June 2020

To the Children of Jarrow Cross,

I hope you are all well and keeping busy. I’m guessing that you will have been doing a lot of inside activities over the last few days. Did you see the hailstones this morning! I hope you didn’t get caught in it.

Have you managed to see some more of your family members over the last week? I was able to visit my Mam and Dad last week, we sat in the garden together for the first time since lockdown began it was lovely.

This week all of the teachers have been busy getting ready for some of you coming back to school. They have all said how much they have enjoyed seeing and hearing what you have been up too. So keep sending your photographs to the Distance Learning email account.

Those of you who are coming back to school we can’t wait to see you. For the moment you might want to start thinking about things you would like to tell us about for example  any nice things that you have been doing or any worries that you may have about coming back. If you are worried why don’t you send your teacher an email and they will get in touch with you to have a chat.

For those of you who are not coming back to school yet nothing will change, your weekly plans will still be on the website and school APP each Monday morning for you to work through.

Have a lovely weekend. Remember BE KIND and look after each other.

    Take care,

    Mrs McBeth

  • Letter to Parents from Mrs McBeth 5.6.20

    Fri 05 Jun 2020

    Friday 5th May 2020

    Dear Parents,

I hope you are all well. Just to keep you updated with a number of matters. Our Risk Assessments have been passed by both Governors and the Local Authority and Reception Parents have been notified that school will re-open for Reception children on June 8th. The Risk Assessment is available for all parents to view in the Key Information section of the website. Obviously at the moment I cannot guarantee the opening times for other year groups but the provisional dates at the moment are still:

    Year 1 15th June

    Year 6 22nd June

All parents of children in those year groups have received a letter detailing opening and pick up times. They are also available on the website. Please note that school meals and milk are free to all children attending school this term.

Our key workers continue to attend school as they have been throughout this period. If you are a Key Worker and are returning to work in the next few weeks and will need your child to attend school, please contact us by Friday 12th June to confirm a place. After that point due to other Year Groups returning we may not be able to provide any additional places.

Unfortunately, as I have stated in previous letters unless guidance from the government changes we do not have the capacity to open to any other year groups before September. We fully appreciate that does leave many of you struggling to balance childcare and working pressures, however we have no option but to follow government guidance.

Home learning will continue in the same way for all year groups. Each Year Groups plan will be available on the website and APP every Monday morning as has been current practice.

At the moment Free School Meal Vouchers are set to continue. However, it is very possible that the Government will begin to wind down the system as the summer holidays approach especially for the Year Groups which are allowed to attend school.

Currently parents entitled to free school meals should continue to receive vouchers if their children remain at home this term, children attending school will have their free

school meal in school, therefore if your child is in school you will not receive a voucher for that child. However, if they have a sibling still at home you will receive a voucher for that child.  We will keep you updated. If any family does require food parcels please contact us or a member of the Friends of Jarrow Cross as soon as possible.

We are all desperate for everything to get back to normal and see you all on a daily basis, chats on the phone although lovely are just not the same!

Please remember even if your child is not returning to school that we are here to help in any way we can.

    Take Care

    Mrs McBeth
