Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Change of date
Due to next week’s Strike Action the Garden Party will now take place after school on
Tuesday 4th July. It will start at 3.10pm and finish at 4.15pm.
Also to support our Foodbank, in conjunction with the Friends of Jarrow Cross
we are holding a Non Uniform Day ‘Dress for Summer’ on that day 4th July in which we would ask instead of a monetary donation that children bring with them a food item eg tin, bag of pasta, packet of biscuits. Please ask all children to take their food into the classroom.
All items collected will be used to make up food parcels which will support families during the summer holidays.

Dear Parents/Carers,
As you will have heard on the media the NEU are again holding strike action on Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th of July. As I informed you previously the strike is happening due to a national dispute between the unions and the government.
I’m getting in touch to give you as much notice as possible about our arrangements for 5th and 7th July. Teaching staff are not all members of the same union, therefore, I must inform you that school will be closed for children who are in the following classes:
Y2 Mrs Watson
Y3/4S
Y3/4M
Please note the 100% attendance of any child in any of the above classes will not be affected by not being in school that day.
If your child is entitled to a to Benefit Related Free School Meal, packed lunches will be available to be picked up from the school office at 12 o’ clock on the day of the strikes. However, I am sure you will understand that they must be ordered so if you would a like a lunch provided for your child please complete and return the form below by Monday 3rd July.
If you have any questions, please contact the office or send an email to the address listed at the top of this letter.

What a brilliant day for the Year 5G children at the Vex Go Competition. We had two teams of six children and out of 24 teams who took part, we came 3rd and 17th! An amazing result for our first time in this competition. The children had built their robots and also built the competition field, which represented an underwater lab. They had various tasks to complete which consisted of delivering 'sensors' to a marked place, opening a clam to deliver the pearl and to repair a water pipe. The tasks were completed by driving and by using a block based code called Scratch. Lots of teamwork and problem solving were involved and the resilience and perseverance has been amazing to see. Well done to all.
On Friday the 9th of June, three teams made up of Y5 and Y6 pupils took part in the South Tyneside Quadkids Athletics tournament at Monkton Stadium. Each pupil had to compete in a 600m long race, a 75m sprint, the standing long jump and finally the howler (javelin) throw. Out of 48 teams and nearly 500 pupils, Jarrow Cross had all three teams in the top 25 and amazingly, Jarrow Cross A finished in 4th place overall. Every pupil worked hard to perform to their best ability on the day and the encouragement that they gave each other, and other competitors was wonderful to see. We even received comments from other schools congratulating our pupils on their sportsmanship and support that they had shown. Well done to all who took part - and to all the pupils who tried out but didn't make the team this year.
