  • Contact Tracing of Positive COVID-19 Cases Within Education Settings

    Fri 16 Jul 2021
    Dear Parent/Carer/Guardian

Contact Tracing of Positive COVID-19 Cases Within Education Settings

From Monday 19th July 2021, the Government has advised that close contacts in schools will be identified via NHS Test and Trace and schools will no longer be expected to undertake contact tracing.

However, I am asking all South Tyneside schools, working with the Public Health Team, to continue to undertake close contact tracing of positive cases within the school until the end of this term. If your child’s school contacts, you to tell you that your child has been in close contact with a positive person in the school then your child will be required to self-isolate and you will receive a letter to this effect.

I have not taken this decision lightly. I want to keep all children, staff and the wider community of South Tyneside as safe as possible leading into the summer break.

The infection rate in South Tyneside now is extremely high and increasing every day. The number of people being admitted to hospital is also increasing.

Schools in South Tyneside will also continue with the current protective measures that have been operating, as outlined in their risk assessments, until the end of the summer term (e.g. bubbles, limited visitors, staggered entry/departure times, staggered lunchtimes, increased cleaning etc).  This will help to minimise the impact to schools and allow them to stay open until the end of term.

With one week left of term for most schools, it is important that we continue to reduce risk and manage positive cases and close contacts of positive cases in our schools in the same manner we have done up until now.

Please note that from 23rd July 2021 NHS Test and Trace will work with either the positive case – or in the case of children – the parents, carers or guardians of the positive case to identify close contacts.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

    Yours sincerely

  • Support for England Football team in light of the recent news!

    Thu 15 Jul 2021

Children at Jarrow Cross were saddened to see the racial abuse footballers have faced and wanted to do something about it!

We created posters that are proudly displayed on our school fence (beside the traffic lights by the exit of the one way system).

However, not only did we discuss racism, we also discussed the fact that the vile words and actions from a small minority of individuals, has overshadowed the outstanding success that England has achieved.

In the words of one of the children, "Just like the pitch invader, do not give racists the attention they want." Let us focus on the good! England has done us all proud!

We also used our class award of the week template to award footballers with our 'Footballer of the Euros' to show how proud we were of each and every footballer!

  • Letter to Parents from Mrs McBeth 9.7.21

    Fri 09 Jul 2021

    Friday 9th July 2021

    Dear Parents/Carers,

As I am sure you will be are aware we have had to close a number of our school bubbles this week. This continues to be a very difficult situation, however not surprising as unfortunately South Tyneside continues to have the largest numbers of COVID cases in the country. Also I am sure you will be aware that new Governmnet Guidance regarding COVID regualtions has been released this week. However, as schools in South Tyneside do not complete their academic year until 23rd July we have been informed by Public Health that all COVID measures in schools must reamin in place until the end of term. To clarify this means there will be no changes to the way school is run during the last week of term – children will remain in Bubbles and and all contact tracing will continue. This does mean that there will continue to be the possibility of Bubble closures and isolation. As always can I urge you not to send your child into school if they are displaying any COVID symptoms.

Looking ahead to September, I would like to take this opportunity to make you aware of a few changes for the new academic year. Firstly, there will be some slight changes to the composition of the classes in September. As I am sure you are aware we do not have enough classrooms to facilitate two classes per year group throughout the school. Therefore over the last few years we have had three mixed Year 4/5 classes and previously to that Year 5/6 classes. For next academic year, due to the ever changing needs of the curriculum the class structure will be three Year3/4 mixed classes. Please see below for next year’s class structure:

    Reception – 2 classes

    Year 1 – 2 classes

    Year 2 – 2 classes

    Year 3/4 – 3 classes

    Year 5 - 2 classes

    Year 6 – 2 classes

All children who in September will be part of a mixed class will bring home further information tonight. As always if you have any queries please do not hesitate to get in touch. For your information we have a transition session organised for 15th July during which all children will meet their new class teacher.

Also, from September another change will be the start and end of the school day. Obvioulsy this year due to COVID regulations we have had a very staggered start and end to the school day. Although not always convenient it cannot be denied that this has helped with the congestion of traffic on Borough Road. Therefore, in September with this in mind, at the beginning of each school day we will now be operating a drop off system. School doors will be open from 8.45am to 9am. Parents will be able to escort their children onto the school grounds at anytime during that 15 minute interval, children will then enter the building immediately and go directly to their classrooms.  Please note children must be in the class ready to start lessons at 9am. To clarify, the school day will begin at 9am.

Reception and Year 1 pupils will enter via the doors on their respective yards. Y2 pupils should enter through the small hall. Y3/4 pupils will use the door to the right of the large hall and Y5/6 pupils should use the door immediately inside the school yard, at the far right of the school near the car park. Staff will be supervising each of these doors to support pupils and they will be opened each morning promptly at 8.45am. Unless attending Breakfast Club, no children should be unaccompanied on the school premises before 8.45am. KS2 children will not be allowed in the school yard before the start of the school day. At the end of the day, again to ease congestion, there will be a slightly staggered finish to the school day. Reception and KS1 will finish at 3.10am and KS2 3.20pm

Start of day for all children

    End of school day

    8.45am - 9am drop off period

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

    3.10pm

    KS2 (Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6)

    3.20pm

Children will be collected from the door in which they enter each morning.

Finally for your information, families entitled to benefit related free school meals will once again be in receipt of a FSM voucher for the summer holiday. This is valued at £12.50 per week which adds up to £75.00 for the six weeks. We will have them available for collection the last week of term and will text you when they are ready.

Free Food Friday will be available as usual on 16th July for ALL families. However, during the last week of term all food will be parcelled up and distributed to families. If you would require a food parcel please contact school or the Friends of Jarrow Cross. Priority in this instance will be given to families who will not be in receipt of FSM vouchers over the holiday period.

I hope you all have a good weekend and I am sure you will all be glued to your television on Sunday evening at 8pm! I know you will join with myself and the children when we say COME ON ENGLAND!

    Kind regards,

    Mrs McBeth

  • Mrs McBeth's letter about the Euro Football Final

    Fri 09 Jul 2021

    Friday 9th July 2021

    Dear Parent/Carer

If your child is a football fan and likely to be staying up after 11pm on Sunday to watch the final, then you have school’s permission for this one time only, to let them stay in bed a bit longer on Monday morning. School will start at the usual time, but we would rather have children rested and arriving a little later when they are ready to learn than absent all day or grumpy!

Its 55 years and for most of us the first time and for all we know could be the last, we will ever experience England reaching a major football final so let them watch it, talk about the National Anthem, about pride and if it doesn’t go our way resilience as although for some if it doesn’t it may feel like it’s the end of the world - it really isn’t!

Unfortunately, this does not include Year 6 who are going on a trip on Monday morning so need to be in bright and early!!
