  • Letter to Parents from Mrs McBeth 8.5.20

    Thu 07 May 2020

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you are all well and looking forward to the Bank Holiday weekend.

As I am sure you are aware there is due to be an announcement from the Prime Minister on Sunday regarding the lifting of some lockdown restrictions. We expect schools to feature in this speech, therefore we might know a little more regarding timescales for reopening by Sunday evening. Once we have a clearer picture on what is happening our first priority will be to share that information with yourselves.

Can I just take the opportunity in this week’s letter to mention E- safety (being safe online). Obviously we all appreciate that at this time phones, ipads etc are a lifeline for the children to be able to communicate with one another. However, I would advise that you routinely check their messages and who they are talking to. We do lots of work at school around E- safety and now more than ever it is important to make sure the children are following E- safety rules. For more information regarding staying safe on line check out our E- safety section on the website. I will be reminding the children of these rules in their letter this week.

I would also just like to thank you again for the kindness and support which has been made known to us during this difficult and unpredictable time. Our school has been functioning very different from usual. Some decisions have had to be made very quickly and the patience shown by you all has been very much appreciated.

Finally, a big thank you to you all for encouraging your children to go on Times Tables Rock stars this week. We won our battle against St Matthew’s by quite a large margin.  A special big thank you to Colin Lewis who was top of the leader board with an amazing 22,076 points and to one of our Year 4 pupil Noah Le Tissier who was in second place with an amazing 14,282 points. Obviously your children are the best mathematicians in Jarrow!

Have a lovely weekend, stay safe and take care,

    Mrs McBeth

  • Letter to Children from Mrs McBeth 8.5.20

    Thu 07 May 2020

To the children of Jarrow Cross,

I hope you are all well and you are looking forward to the Bank Holiday weekend and have been enjoying taking part in some VE Day activities. Don’t forget to send your photographs to the distance learning email account.

I know at the moment that you will be using your phones, ipads, tablets to chat to each other ALL OF THE TIME! But while you are online remember all of our E- Safety Rules.

    • Don’t post any personal information online – like your address, email address or mobile number.
    • Think carefully before posting pictures or videos of yourself.  Once you’ve put a picture of yourself online most people can see it and may be able to download it, it’s not just yours anymore.
    • Keep your privacy settings as high as possible
    • Never give out your passwords
    • Only talk to people you know
    • Think carefully about what you say before you post something online
    • Respect other people’s views, even if you don’t agree with someone else’s views doesn’t mean you need to be rude
    • If you see something online that makes you feel uncomfortable, unsafe or worried: leave the website, turn off your computer if you want to and tell a trusted adult immediately.

Finally a huge Well Done to you all for winning the Times Table Rock Stars battle against St Matthew you were ALL AMAZING. A special shout out to Colin Lewis who was top of the leader board with a jaw dropping 22,076 points and to our Year 4 pupil Noah Le Tissier who was in second place with an amazing 14,282 point. You are FANTASTIC!

Have a lovely weekend everyone and remember BE KIND !

    Mrs McBeth

  • VE Day activities (in school and at home)

All of our weekly plans this week focus on VE day. Due to this, we thought we would share some of the activities we have been doing at school, as well as some fantastic pieces of work and creations from home!
  • Letter to Parents from Mrs McBeth 1.5.20

    Fri 01 May 2020

    Friday 1st May

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you have all had a good week, you are fit and well and the week has been as stress free as possible for you.

As I know you will be aware next Friday’s Bank Holiday is in celebration of VE Day. Therefore, all of next week’s year group plans will be VE Day themed. The tasks/activities include the opportunity to research key people such as Winston Churchill, create flags and bunting, bake a wartime recipe, design and create junk model aeroplanes to name but a few. We hope you enjoy the change in focus and would love to see some examples of the children’s work and creations. Please send any photographs to the Distance Learning account which we will then share with everyone via the website. We will also be celebrating VE Day in school next week with our Key Worker’s children culminating in a social distancing street party next Thursday.

I hope you have all been able to access our new Facebook page Bee Calm Bee Happy. For further information regarding how to join please refer to the website. The page has been specifically set up to support the emotional wellbeing of both parents and children during this difficult period. On the page there is a lovely message from Mrs Jackson’s explaining the support she can provide.

Please also remember, staff are in school each day to deal with any problems or issues which may arise, so please do not hesitate to get in touch.

    Take Care

    Mrs McBeth

    Fri 01 May 2020

    Friday 1st May

To the children of Jarrow Cross,

I hope you are all well and have had a good week. I hope you have been taking care of each other, completing tasks from your weekly plans as well as having some good fun.

Next week all of the activities on your weekly plan will be based around VE Day which is being celebrated next Friday. VE stands for Victory in Europe and on VE Day we will be celebrating 75 years since the end of World War II. (For more information about VE Day read the VE Day Celebration Assembly on the Distance Learning page.) In your plan there will be lots of hands on activities for you to complete which include making flags, bunting, junk model aeroplanes and even baking to a wartime recipe. We would love to see some photographs of your creations, send them to the Distance Learning Account so we can share them with everyone on the website.

I hope you enjoyed Mr. Taggart’s message last week. I certainly hope he got the right amount of bananas on his Asda order this week! Miss Schofield is sending you all a message this week, so I hope you have been working hard on Times Tables Rock Stars because she will be asking! Also watch out for her unexpected special visitor!

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the activities next week. Remember what I say to you each week, Be Kind to each other- especially your parents.

Take care everyone, miss you lots and lots.
